About the Hardens

Devin and Breanne first met in Hiroshima while Devin was serving full-time as a missionary in Hiroshima and Breanne was on a short-term missions trip through Grand Canyon University. Long story short, they fell in love and got married in February of 2019 with the intention of serving together full-time in Japan for life.

Devin was originally a biochemical researcher and triple major in biology, chemistry, and environmental science at the University of Hawaii at Hilo before he got the call to full-time missions after going on a summer missions trip to Japan with Campus Crusade (CRU) in 2012. After returning from the trip, Devin gave up his career and the sciences to pursue missions, and began volunteering full time with CRU and working under his pastor at Calvary Chapel Hilo. In November of 2015, Devin began his first three year term, serving full time in Hiroshima with Pioneers and alongside the local church in the city. Devin has a huge heart for student ministry, and was serving mainly at one of the local universities.

Breanne recently graduated summa cum laude from Grand Canyon University with an BA in English (Lopes Up!). She has had a love of Japan and Japanese culture since she was in 8th grade, and has been studying Japanese since High School. God revealed His plan for her passion for Japan through her two mission trips to Hiroshima through GCU, where she heard the call to full-time missions in Japan.

Currently, Devin and Breanne are in Phoenix, Arizona while they raise the financial support they need to return to Japan full-time. Unfortunately, Covid has delayed their return, but they are prayerfully hoping to be back in Hiroshima in 2022.
